Volunteer Opportunities

Whether it's an hour or a full day, your time as a volunteer makes a world of difference at the Seacoast YMCA. We have as many ways to volunteer as we have members, so find something that strikes your fancy, and talk with us about it. If there's something you'd like to bring to the Y that is not listed here, call us! You may also fill out a Volunteer Interest form.

If you are interested in any of the volunteer opportunities please contact Michelle Daigle, Volunteer Coordinator, at (603) 431–2334 or e–mail at: mdaigle@seacoastymca.org

Would you like to volunteer, but just can't seem to find the time?
Become a Volunteer Ambassador!

Have you ever had a quick question? Wished you knew other people in your class? Wondered who to go to, but was too shy to ask the instructor?

Volunteer ambassadors help new (or older) members get aquainted with our programs. All you need to do is come to the classes you already come to, but also be available to answer simple questions. If the questions are more than you can answer, then bring them to us. Would you like to volunteer, but just can't seem to find the time? Become a Volunteer Ambassador!

Together we can create a welcoming community at our Seacoast Y!

The Seacoast YMCA has the following volunteer opportunities available:
(listed alphabetically)

Aerobic Instructors:  If being fit is your passion and you love being in the limelight, consider volunteering as an aerobics instructor at the Y. You already know that regular exercise strengthens your heart, helps control weight, and relieves stress. Now is your chance to share this knowledge with a room full of friendly and enthusiastic folks who are ready to get into better shape. There are opportunities to teach weekend, night and early a.m. classes. Substitutes are also needed. CPR certification required.

After School Enrichment:  Do you have a hobby, sport or skill that you would like to share with our after school program? Kids that are exposed to a variety of activities often stumble upon the thing that they become passionate about. Quality after school programs help children do better in school, stimulate more ideas for career choices, and improve kids' self–esteem. Come share your interests with the kids. Call Mary Ann Cuddihee for more information, ext. 302.

Aquatics:  The YMCA pool enjoys a high level of volunteer support. To be part of the action as an instructor or lifeguard, call Tammy Hilton, ext. 309.

Aquatics Program Aides:  Kids that take swimming lessons are not only much safer around water, but they also learn basic life-saving skills, and develop a life-long interest in the sport of swimming. Get wet with the kids, and help them with an important and healthy skill, while at the same time enjoying the water yourself! Call Tammy Hilton, ext. 309.

Facilities:  The Seacoast Y has a big facility and a beautiful, remodeled camp site, so there are always jobs awaiting finishing. If you're handy with tools, enjoy outdoor work, or would like to do some community service hours, call the front desk at 603-431-2334.

Fitness Room Monitor: Be the friendly face that our members turn to when they have questions about equipment in the fitness room. Meet lots of nice people and maybe even get in a workout yourself. CPR certification required.

Front Desk Help:  Make a hundred friends and help the YMCA. We need some smiling faces to support our Front Desk staff. Initial duties would include helping to maintain the coffee cart and performing "busy work" the staff can't seem to get to. In time, volunteers interested in learning could take on more customer service related tasks. If you are a people person with an hour or two to spend, and are seeking an on-going volunteer opportunity, we could use your support on weeknights between the hours of 6:00PM or 9:00 p.m., and on weekends between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.

If you are a people person, and want to spend a few hours per week being a ray of sunshine in people's lives, then come by. Nights from 5:30 or 6 pm to 9:30 on Tues., Wed., Thurs., and alternating Fri.'s are the slots that we would love to have volunteers for. If you have some free time, enjoy working with people, don't mind a little frenzy occasionally, and would like to help out, call the front desk for more information.

Gymnastics helper:  Our gymnastic instructor's back is aching on Thursday and Friday afternoons! She teaches the kids and could use a hand with "spotting" the kids as they do their backbends, cartwheels and back flips. If you have just an hour or two to spare per week, then contact Heather Philo, the gymnastics director at 603-431-2334. Heather would love to have your help.

Painting: Help make the Y a beautiful place to be. We need volunteers to help with painting inside the main facility in Portsmouth and at Camp Gundalow in Greenland.
